Shailesh Vara, the MP for North West Cambridgeshire  (his patch includes Stanground and Park Farm) has welcomed the announcement of plans by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons to change the self-defence law to protect homeowners. Mr Vara has been a long standing supporter of a change in the law to to protect people who defend their homes from unlawful intruders. He tried in 2007 to introduce a Private Members Bill on similar lines, but the Bill was defeated. However Prime Minister David Cameron announced this week, that the Coalition Government would  "put beyond reasonable doubt that home owners and small shopkeepers who use reasonable force to defend themselves or their property will not be prosecuted."
