Sgt. Simon Goldsmith from our neighbourhood police team writes: As part of our crime prevention we monitor the crimes raised to ensure we place resources in the most needed areas. To achieve this shifts are altered and a mix of plain clothes officers with high visible officers will be deployed. Following this exercise it has become apparent that we are experiencing a significant rise in the number of thefts from motor vehicles in our area with a large number occurring in Hampton closely followed by Woodston/Fletton. Physically check the inside of your vehicle at some time during the evening! Most of these crimes are taking place after 1800 hours and not been discovered until the following morning with a mixture of techniques being used to gain access; these include; breaking windows and finding vehicles insecure often unlocked. Please do not invite crime and ensure when your vehicle is left unattended it is both locked and secure; place all objects, presents and shopping out of sight especially if the purchases are valuable, in particular Sat Navs, mobile phones etc. Remove or hide anything that could indicate that there may be a piece of equipment such as leads, cradles and where possible wipe the ring marks on the screen left by the sat nav! It is a giveaway... With Christmas shopping in full swing, please ensure the presents you buy are put out of sight if you need to leave them in your unattended vehicle, place them in the boot or under the seat. Be vigilant of who and what is around you. If you see anything suspicious please don't hesitate ring us on the new direct local number 101 to let us know. Ideally, get a description of those you are concerned about, their clothing, height, hair colour most importantly anything that stands out and is easily recognised. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please pass this on to others, lets disrupt these thieves and their activities. Best wishes from your Neighbourhood Police Team |
