Could you do something special?
Could you do something Special? If you’ve ever dreamed of being a police officer, volunteering with the Special Constabulary could be for you. Special Constables, or ‘Specials’ as they’re affectionately known in the force, wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment and have the same powers as regular police officers – including the power of arrest.
Being a police officer is a demanding but incredibly rewarding role, and being a member of the Specials can be just as exciting as being a regular officer. Specials in Cambridgeshire carry out a wide variety of different activities, from walking the beat to carrying out house-to-house enquiries and providing security at major events such as Peterborough United football matches, our Specials do it all.
The contribution the Specials make in Cambridgeshire is enormous – in just three months last year our 179 existing Specials were directly involved in almost 350 arrests. If you’ve always wanted to make a difference in your local community, and you can spare at least four hours a week, then why not consider joining the Special Constabulary?
People from all walks of life can apply, as long as you’re over 18 and fairly fit. It’s a great way to learn new skills as full training is provided. You’ll learn how to prevent, detect and handle crimes, how to prepare evidence for court, how to effectively resolve conflict and handle difficult situations, and self defence to make sure you know how to keep yourself safe. Local businesses can also get involved by taking part in our Employer Supported Policing Scheme (ESP).
ESP is an effective partnership between employers, their staff and the police service to support special constables and brings unique benefits to both business and employee.
