GREEN MINI-MOTO NARROWLY AVOIDS TODDLER

Residents are asked to keep their eyes peeled for a green Mini-moto on the Greenwheel riverside foot and cyclepath alongside Park Farm. The rider, an overweight paunchy adult, hides under a hoodie, has no helmet, certainly no insurance and narrowly missed a family walking along the path with a toddler on a tricycle..

If seen immediately call POLICE or Crime Stoppers. Video and pictures would also be welcome. We have an idea of who the person is, but need the confirmation in order that Police can charge the culprit, sieze and crush the mini-moto before someone gets seriously injured.

Sex attack on morning dog walker in Peterborough

29 August 2010 Last updated at 14:08

BBC Cambridgeshire are reporting a sex attack on morning dog walker in Peterborough. A woman in her early 50s was sexually assaulted as she walked her dog in a field near Peterborough.

The attack happened at about 6 am on Saturday 28th August, north of Clayton in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough

The attacker grabbed the woman, who then struck him, and he walked off in the direction of a BMX track.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 7in (1.7m) with a "bad" complexion, a police spokesman said.  He wore a padded black bomber-style jacket and dark trousers.

Police are keen to speak to another dog walker who was in the area at the time.

Now River Nene Swans are oiled up and being captured for cleaning..

Luckily Beer drinkers waiting for the first day of the Peterborough Beer Festival to open, didn't see some 27 swans neatly wrapped in canvas carry bags as they would have rubbed their eyes in disbelief and immediately given up the drink! A further flock of swans looked out of the windows of several RSPCA vans parked nearby.

An oil slick further up river had contaminated the swans. RSPCA teams raced up and down the River in two inflatable boats carefully capturing the oiled Swans. Once carefully cleaned by hand, they will be returned to the River but only after the Swans' natural oils had waterproofed the cleaned feathers. RSPCA have since confirmed that other swans have been contaminated and they may have to make a return trip to round them up. The Environment Agency is on the trail of the polluter and may well end up in Court as a result.

THE RISE OF THE NEXT DOOR STRANGER

Everybody needs good neighbours - but millions of Britons distrust theirs and are more friendly with online friends, new research has revealed.

More than one quarter (27%) admit to feeling suspicious of those who live near them while almost half (44%) feel they do not share the same values as them, the poll showed.

Most people (59%) believe they have little in common with their neighbours, making it unsurprising that the majority (61%) never socialise with them, according to a study carried out by Legal & General.

The study, called Next Door Strangers, paints a picture of a nation whose sense of community is disappearing. It has been replaced instead by a climate of distrust - and a denial of the idea that neighbours should be there for one another, the report indicated.

Most Britons (70%) do not know their neighbours' names and would not recognise them if they passed them in the street.

Many people are far more friendly instead with online pals they have never even met, with 34% of social networkers saying they were friends with others on Facebook or follow people on Twitter who fit into this category. Only 19% are online friends with a neighbour.

But Neighbourhood Watch insisted the UK's sense of community was alive and well.

Roy Rudham, chairman of the UK Neighbourhood Watch Trust, said: "People are still getting to know their neighbours, still looking out for their neighbours and looking after their neighbours' houses when they go on holiday.

"If you live on a long street, there will always be people you don't know but that doesn't mean there's no sense of community any more."

Don't get carded! HOLIDAYWATCH reporting closed windows open!

The Holidaywatch team on patrol?
The silence of the hot air balloon beats the noise of the Cambridgshire Police helicopter,
but parking on a roof has yet to be mastered!

The HOLIDAYWATCH teams keep a discreet daytime eye on your properties - when you are away on Holiday - are reporting that on viewing from the street, a number of windows appear to be closed but from the angle of the handle; clearly they have just been pulled to the closed position but the handle hasn't been pushed down to lock it!  Needless to say, its like turning on a flashing neon sign saying  "Come In, Help Yourself!"

We were considering popping 'red cards' through letter boxes,  but that may cause some domestic strife so if you find that your neighbour has left their windows  'open for business' please tip them off and kindly ask them to lock them properly closed.

The other old chestnut during the school holiday period is to tie your front door key on a string and hang it behind the letterbox so all the family can use it.... again 'neon signs' are flashing! Timpsons in Central Peterborough, do a key cutting service, say you were recommended by the Park Farm Neighbourhood Watch...and then ask  for a community discount!

DOOR TO DOOR ALERT INTERNET SALESMAN

DOOR TO DOOR ALERT

We've had a neatly suited male aged around 25, 5' 7" on the doorstep. His opening gambit is 'Do you know they have made an upgrade at your local telephone exchange and that the Internet is now free.....?.' He launched straight into his pitch didn't even say Hi!

It's all free, trust me!

Having battled with BT and anyone else who would listen, over the last two years, I can confirm the telephone exchange is still at the same sorry level of Internet speed, as it was a few years ago!

No attempt by our doostep salesman to show me his staff credentials although he did have a Talk Talk lanyard around his neck but didn't have any paperwork, leaflets or brochures and seemed way too interested on what was happening beyond the doorstep! Any information pass it back to us and/or call police!

FISHING SWIMS READY FOR SERIOUS FISHING ACTION AT PARK FARM POND

Swim, fishy, swim....

Thanks to teams from Community Payback, grass and reeds have now been expertly cut back to create a series of  'fishing swims' at Park Farm Pond. For the non fishyfolk amongst us (include me!) a 'fishing swim' is a level access to the fishing water, so you can set up your rod, tent sleeping bag, radio tuned to BBC Cambs and a billy can of cocoa  (last bit is my idea) right next to the waters edge and nothing to do with cod swimming or people falling in.

Seriously we do thank the teams, as they worked really hard to create some new facilities at the Park Farm Pond which has now been adopted by PCC and is within the watchful radar of your friendly Park Farm Neighbourhood Watch and Cambridgeshire Police who use some mean looking pedal bikes to patrol the Middle Level footpaths and now the Pond. We have still to find the mindless idiot who tipped oil/petrol into the pond but hopefully no long term damage has been done....

RASH OF FAKE WATER BOARD DISTRACTION BURGLARIES NOW!

There have been a rash of distraction burglaries reported to Police this afternoon (Tuesday 10th August) in the South Cambs area, all used the old chestnut of being fake Water Board Officials stating that there had been "an explosion of sewage" and they had to turn off the domestic water supply.

There have also been another three incidents reported to the police in the Suffolk area close to the Cambs border with Newmarket:

12.50 pm in Soham - two males again claiming to be from the Water Board - took money from a jar - again descriptions are similar to other offences, two clean shaven white males, well dressed, black trousers and black jumpers.

1.30pm in Littleport, Ely - Description is one white male 30-40yrs smartly dressed in black suit, a form of ID (fake) hanging around neck although that was not confirmed, slim dark hair and clean shaven, the second male had olive skin, 30-40 years looked like workman in dark anorak, chubby, shorter than first male and clean shaven - unfortunately they got away with a large sum of money

2pm in Balsham, Cambridge - 2 white males, one in 20s one in 30s, dark tops one taller than other, one was either bald or very short cropped hair - tried to get occupant to stay in his bathroom, he became suspicious and pulled emergency cord and they ran off

Police say the reason to raise the alert to NHW and other partner agencies in Peterborough is that the City is only an hour's drive away, police need to get the message out to you all very quickly - please keep an eye on any elderly relatives or neighbours and report any suspicious behaviour to the police on 0345 456 456 4 - if you believe an offence is about to be committed don't delay ring 999

Just Fancy That! Wheelie Green Bin Lid Pops Open Due To Heat!

On one of the very first HolidayWatch patrols - where we keep an eye on your property during the day when you are away on holiday- launched on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (scroll down for Watch details) it was noticed that due to the heat, a green recycling wheelie bin managed to pop its lid, right in front of our very eyes! It turns out that empty cola and plastic water bottles tossed into the green bin with the caps screwed down, expanded in the heat and forced open the previously closed lid! This is important as council workers have been instructed not to empty wheelie bins where the bin lid is open or even slightly open! The simple remedy is not to completely fill your bins and if possible flatten the plastic bottles (use hot water) and discard the screw down plastic bottle tops.

Park Farm Village & Country Fete Summer 2011

Not all pets are warm blooded...

As part of our new total inclusion campaign to get all the residents of Park Farm, talking and looking out for each other, we are toying with the idea of holding a series of fun public events, the main one being considered is the Park Farm Village & Country Fayre.  Logistics and permissions will need to be obtained so we are looking at Summer 2011, i.e.next year

The ideal area would be around the Park Farm Pond and the access footway and grasslands back to Park Farm Way.  We are looking at arts and craft stalls, country craft displays, a stage perfomance and picnic area, Beer Tent, drama and gymnastic displays, Pet show, Car, Banger & Bike Competition, Live Radio and TV Coverage with a special studio set up for the day. Emergency Services demonstration and possibly an evening 'Last Night of the Proms' style concert.

These are just a few ideas but we won't know what is possible until you the residents let us know what mix of events and attractions you would like. So get thinking, you have until December this year to get your ideas in and we in the meantime have enough time to work out the planning aspect of the event and to see what is possible. If you have any special talents or access to the kind of equipment we would need, then feel free to get in touch.

THE HOLIDAY YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN?

We are keeping a beady eye on houses and flats known to be briefly empty during the holiday period. You can help as well, discreetly let us or a PFNW street co-ordinator know when you are to be on holiday and we'll add you to the list for unannounced outside DAYTIME visits to your property whilst you are away. We take the view that your neighbours will keep an eye on things during the evening and early morning, it's during normal working hours, properties are most at risk when neighbours are usually at work.

A nominal £5 donation per address per week, is requested for the visit service to swell the PFNW coffers, as Chris emptied the jamjar and local youth groups are now feeling the financial benefit! Essentially we willmake you members of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme, we'll need your holiday contact telephone number, your written permission and the name and contact numbers of a keyholder. We arrange to walk by your property at various times during the week. No access to the property is required as the inspection is visual covering doors and windows etc.

Speaking of holidays, the recent collapse of Goldtrail Travel Group means that it is a very good idea to ensure that at least £101 of your holiday invoice is paid for using a credit card (not a debit card) issued to an individual.

If your holiday company goes belly up, the holiday company ATOL registration will get you back on a flight if you booked a complete package ie flight AND hotel together. However the ABTA guarantee is limited and not all that it's cracked up to be, so if you've paid by credit card; a legal claim AGAINST THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY can be made under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974  for the whole invoice.

It is also a good idea to have access to a cash reserve, just in case you need to cover the balance of your hotel stay at the resort (although you may be able to reclaim it later). Local hoteliers have to go through a lengthy claim process with the CAA just to recover hotel discounted contract costs from the date of the holiday company failure and if the holiday company hasn't already paid the hotel some small family concerns just won't go through the UK based claim process and will demand cash from the holidaymaker!
