PCC on verge of outsourcing all street services

Hey Alf, the new people left the Cathedral Square fountains on again....

{Street /river waterbus in operation in Scotland }

PCC has named its "recommended preferred organisation" to become its partner in the running of waste collection and other services.

Enterprise Management Services has been named as the frontrunner to become Peterborough City Council's strategic partner.
The organisation would be involved in recycling, street cleaning and grounds' maintenance.

The council said a final decision would be made later this month. Deputy council leader Matthew Lee said: "We are looking for a strategic partner to deliver some of our key frontline services for many years, so it's important that we get it right."

PFNW comments: Although this is seen as a cost effective way to reduce the council headcount, in reality, it introduces several new layers of management and a remote commercial organisation into the chain of command.

Simply to get roads repaired and street lights fixed, we will all have to deal with employees of EMS (or even a call centre in India!) and they in turn will have to get a sanction from a commercially employed company official. It is also interesting to note that EMS supply services to the infamous Haringey in North London along with dozens of other local authorities. Welcome to the brave new world, we will all just have to peddle faster in order to stand still, or perhaps EMS will prove us all wrong? Who knows!
