Nineteen Wards to be contested in City Council Elections


Park Farm Neighbourhood Watch by virtue of its' constitution does not endorse any particular candidate for election on May 5th 2011, but we do want to ensure that you are aware of all the dates and deadlines. If you wish to run for election to the Peterborough City Council, you still have until Monday 4th April 2011 to submit your application. You do not have to be sponsored by any political party and indeed you could either stand as an independent or form your own party, the process is very easy!

Nineteen wards will be contested in Peterborough City Council elections on Thursday 5 May 2011. They represent one-third of the total of 57 councillors.

Formal notification of the election was issued on Friday 25 March 2011 and the deadline for candidate nominations is 12noon on Monday 4 April 2011.


A UK-wide referendum on the voting system for the UK parliament will also be held on Thursday 5 May 2011.


The wards being contested, with the existing councillor in brackets, are: Bretton North (Darren Morley); Bretton South (Michael Fletcher); Central (Zahid Hussain); Dogsthorpe (Bella Saltmarsh), East (Mark Collins); Fletton and Woodston (Matthew Lee); North (Charles Swift); Northborough (Peter Hiller); Orton with Hampton (Nigel North); Orton Longueville (Graham Murphy); Orton Waterville (Sue Allen); Park (Yvonne Lowndes); Paston (Sue Day); Ravensthorpe (Harry Newton); Stanground Central (Marco Cereste); Stanground East (Janet Wilkinson); Werrington North (Judy Fox); Werrington South (Paula Thacker); West (Matthew Dalton).

There will also be parish council elections on Thursday 5 May 2011.


The parishes, with the number of seats in brackets, are: Botolph (three), Bretton North (15), Bretton South (five), Deeping Gate (seven), Etton (five), Eye (12), Longueville (eight), Maxey (seven), Northborough (nine), Orton Brimbles & Southgate (three), Orton Goldhay East (two), Orton Goldhay West (two), Orton Village (three), Orton Wistow (three).

The deadline to submit new applications to vote, apply, amend or cancel postal votes is 5pm on Thursday 14 April 2011.


Applications to vote by proxy must be in by 5pm on Thursday 21 April 2011.


Applications to vote by proxy at this election applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Thursday 21 April 2011, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1GF by 5pm on Thursday 5 May 2011.
