TRANSCO DISTRACTION BURGLARY ALERT PERCIVAL ST. PETERBOROUGH ON 29TH MARCH

Distraction burglary reported in Percival Street Peterborough approximately 2.30pm 28th March.

The elderly victim had a caller at her door claiming to be from Transco with an ID tag around his neck. He had a convincing story that a water main had burst some streets away and he needed to gain entry to flush through pipes.

The elderly lady was asked to stay in the downstairs bathroom, whilst the male went upstairs.

Later that evening, she discovered that money was missing from her purse.

For information, Transco as a company no longer exist - since 5 years ago - and National Grid have say they had no crews in our area on the 29th March.

Please can you remind any elderly people you may visit about checking ID and telephoning companies to check companies are genuine - never use a phone number given by a caller for checking - always use the national number found in the phone book.

Any suspicions ring the police. If anyone in the area of Percival Street witnessed anything suspicious on Monday afternoon please call the police on 0345 456 4564 and quote Incident 326 of 29th March or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quote incident 326/29/3
