STANGROUND COLLEGE REBUILDING PLANS FINALLY FILED

After several heart stopping periods over doubtful funding, and broken central government promises, detailed plans for the proposed £22million Stanground College in Stanground [SC] have finally been submitted by contractor Kier to Peterborough City Council’s planning team.

Following approval, thew contractor intends to start work on site in Spring 2012 with the new Stanground College ready for its first intakle in September 2013.

Councillor John Holdich, Cabinet Member, Education, commented: “This is an exciting milestone for everyone connected with SC and a further step towards new buildings which are so desperately needed.  We have already consulted with parents and local residents about the plans and further consultation will continue throughout the development programme.

The plans include new school buildings which will substantially increase the school’s capacity to 1,770 pupils, a six-lane 25 metre swimming pool and changing facilities. The existing sports hall and tented sports hall are to be retained.

PCC although facing funding cuts, found a total of £36.6 million to rebuild Nene Park Academy (Orton Longueville School), and Stanground College. Originally the 'Building Schools for the Future' programme was involved however after a great deal of local preparatory work and expense, funding previously agreed to rebuild was abruptly withdrawn by central Government in 2010.

Congratulations to Marco Cereste, who literally pulled a rabbit out of a hat to make this all happen ...
