The Young Ones.... On yer bike......

Old enough to remember this 7" 45 rpm record from a new DJ?  Yours for 6/9d

The Young Ones.. well those in their dotage will recall that was the title of a Cliff Richards hit nearly 50 years ago, Tony Blackburn also made a record  (see above)  and as a huge part of the PFNW remit is to try and reduce levels of ASB in our neighbourhood and our track record is very impressive when compared to other neighbourhoods in the City. Perhaps an offbeat way to get the term 'record' in, but when I was speaking to Tony B earlier; I reminded him that today 19th September is Pete Murrays Birthday, one of the original Six Five Special hosts. Happy Birthday Pete!

But back to our own records.. Simply crime and ASB levels have dropped and policing in our Park Farm neighbourhood is not a high concern on the overall City priority list, sufficient to say that post police budget cuts, we do have more than adequate levels of around the clock policing and very astute PCSO's who know the ground intimately and have a pretty good idea of who the troublemaking  'one percenters' are.

In addition we also have our own unsung 'neighbourhood champions' who send in cameraphone pictures of minimotos and alert us to any areas of concern. So all in all our membership is active, and as this news blog site is open to all, we can also practically assist others who may have exhausted the traditional routes of help or where officialdom has seemingly put up a blockage, either imaginary or real.

Either way we have an ever growing list of contacts who can usually find or broker an answer. All it takes is the initial telephone call. In cases where an identity has to be witheld or the caller is uncomfortable dealing with police (or us) we strongly advise, where crime is involved, using the freephone Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111 and suggest this number is stored in cellphones or just remembered as a matter of course. At the foot of each post we carry the tagline:  "If you have any information about crime contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at WWW.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to Court."   It means exactly what it says. Cirmestoppers is a Charity independent of police.

Over the years we have also developed doostep relationships with all our local news delivery boys and girls, watching them grow up, exchanging news and information and from time some practical help - the air foot pump comes out of the car every three weeks or so - even to the extent that Ford Motor Company of America came to the rescue of one of our delivery boys, as his push bike had been vandalised early morning on the way to school and the money he had saved to buy new overalls for his mechanics classes at Stanground College has to be spent on a new wheel, tyre so he could maintain his daily delivery round.

A single phone call and Ford America shipped by air that Friday for next day  FedEx delivery, a complete set of their 'coveralls' and also put the young man on the Ford Academy 'watch list ' for future employment prospects in the UK.  Recently he has started college, four days a week, and was bemoaning the fact that he's attended several interviews but no one is taking on school leavers and that competition is so tough that literally hundreds of well qualified 'young ones' apply for every vacancy advertised.  We have the name and address of one hard working 'young one' who just needs employment every Friday and possibly weekends too.. He is hard working, reliable and likes engineering and mechanical projects .... any ideas? Then we'll pass on the information...
